Acrophobia
(Fear of Heights)

 

Acrophobia is an extreme fear of heights. Many people are uncomfortable with heights to varying degrees. But people suffering from Acrophobia have an intensified reaction involving emotional, physiological and behavioral responses. This reaction is often times extreme and out of proportion to the situation, whereas the situation presents no impending danger or threat.  Let’s examine this a little closer and review some of the potential symptoms associated with Acrophobia.

 

On an emotional level you may experience:

  • Fear

  • Panic

  • Anxiety

  • Nervousness

 

Even the mere thought of being exposed to an uncomfortable height could trigger a distressing response. You may find yourself to be overly preoccupied with concerns of potential exposure, often times prompting some level of anticipatory anxiety. It is not uncommon to have vivid and frightening dreams of being trapped in an uncomfortably high place.

 

Physical symptoms may include:

  • Dizziness

  • Rapid breathing

  • Heart palpations

  • Difficulty catching your breath

  • Nausea and dry mouth

  • Feeling unsteady and shaky

 

Behavioral responses often include avoidance of activities and situations that may expose one to heights and trigger an episodic reaction. An Acrophobic individual may make accommodations by modifying plans in accordance with their concerns, interfering and limiting their ability to travel.  

 

This session will utilize proven techniques designed to assist you in establishing a confident, comfortable and relaxed mind set, thereby reducing your uncomfortable emotional and negative response to heights.

 

The session is designed so that you may utilizing the positive visualizations to challenge yourself at increasing levels. Utilizing systematic desensitization at a self-controlled pace by exposing yourself to increased levels of heights over a period of time.

The session begins with a soothing progressive relaxation designed to put both your mind and body into a relaxed state of being.    

Once you have totally relaxed and are within a comfortable state of hypnosis, you will be gently directed using guided imagery.

A process that allows you to incorporate the various steps of your venture. In this particular session we navigate a tall building to a height of our choosing, eventually making our way out onto a balcony as we systematically conquer our fear of heights.

 

During this process various positive visualizations, metaphorical references, and hypnotic suggestions will work to help you psychologically reframe negative and unrealistic perceptions, expectations and belief patterns, thus reducing much of the discomfort normally associated with exposure to heights.   

 

As your session nears its end you will be guided through an exercise of deep breathing and hypnotically embedded suggestions that you may use on your own, following your hypnosis session.
