Agoraphobia (Fear of Situational Panic)
Session targets Agoraphobia
While shopping in Public

Agoraphobia is a type of anxiety disorder where individuals have a fear of situations and events that could potentially trigger feelings of intense panic. In actuality, Agoraphobia is closely related to another type of Anxiety Disorder (Panic Disorder). In fact the symptoms associated with both disorders can closely resemble one another. And It is quite common to find people with Agoraphobia have experienced one or more panic attack during their Agoraphobic response. Additionally, one of the main contributory factors to Agoraphobia is the persistent fear of having a panic attack when in a public place.

People with Agoraphobia often times worry about feeling trapped, helpless or being put in situations that could be potentially embarrassing. Situations that involve leaving the home and participating in events such as riding public transportation, being in a crowd, standing in a line or shopping could potentially trigger an agoraphobic reaction at an emotional, physiological and behavioral level.

On an emotional level some of the symptoms one might experience are:

  • Fear

  • Panic

  • Anxiety

  • Hyper-vigilance

  • Difficulty concentrating

The physical symptoms of an agoraphobic episode are greatly based on a panicked state of response. Therefore, the physical symptoms closely resemble those of a panic attack, such as:

  • Dizziness

  • Lightheadedness

  • Excessive sweating

  • Increased heart rate

  • Tightness in your chest

  • Feeling shaky and unsteady

  • Difficulty breathing or catching your breath

  • Stomach discomfort (butterflies, bloating, digestive issues)

Behavioral responses often include significant life modifications brought about by an underlying anticipatory fear that often times initiates avoidant type behaviors. Individuals with this illness tend to avoid situations and events that historically trigger an Agoraphobic reaction. This avoidance can complicate the simplest of things such going to the supermarket, attending a crowded sporting event or riding public transportation. If left untreated, Agoraphobia may intensify to a level where a person becomes unable to leave their own home.

Although there are various situations that could trigger an Agoraphobic reaction, Mind Ease’s Agoraphobia Hypnosis Session will specifically target an Agoraphobic response to leaving the home to shop within the community, as this is a common occurrence and often times initiates a negative response.

Session Information

Anchor 7

This session will utilize proven techniques designed to assist you in establishing a confident and relaxed mind set, thereby creating a more comfortable perception and reducing your emotional and physiological responses to shopping within the community.

The session begins with a soothing progressive relaxation designed to put both your mind and body into a relaxed state of being.

Once you have totally relaxed and are within a comfortable state of hypnosis, you will be gently directed using guided imagery.

A process that incorporates the various steps of your venture into the community. Such as driving to your destination, entering the store, maneuvering up and down the aisles, interacting with store personal and eventually checking out and returning home.

During this process various positive visualizations, metaphorical references, and hypnotic suggestions will work to help you psychologically reframe negative and unrealistic perceptions, expectations and belief patterns, thus reducing much of the discomfort normally associated with traveling into the community to shop.

As your session nears its end you will be guided through an exercise of deep breathing and suggestive techniques that you may use on your own, following your hypnosis session.
