Social Anxiety Disorder is a type of anxiety disorder where individuals have a fear of direct interaction with others. Often times this fear it triggered by concerns of potential judgement, criticism or embarrassment. Situations that involve leaving the home and participating in events such as attending a job interview, interacting with an authority figures or attending a social gathering could potentially elicit a response. People with Social Anxiety issues often times struggle with self-advocacy as this involves a self-initiated verbal interaction with others.

On an emotional level some of the symptoms one might experience are:

  • Fear

  • Panic

  • Anxiety

  • Insecurity

  • Hypervigilance

  • Difficulty concentrating

The physical symptoms of Social Anxiety are greatly based on a panicked state of response. Therefore the physical symptoms closely resemble those of a panic attack, such as:

  • Dizziness

  • Lightheadedness

  • Excessive sweating

  • Increased heart rate

  • Tightness in your chest

  • Feeling shaky and unsteady

  • Difficulty breathing or catching your breath

  • Stomach discomfort (butterflies, bloating, digestive issues)

Behavioral responses often include significant life modifications brought about by an underlying anticipatory fear that often times initiates avoidant type behaviors. Individuals with this illness tend to avoid situations and events that historically trigger such a negative response.  This avoidance can complicate the simplest of things such as asking for assistance in a store, interacting with coworkers or attending a social gathering. Unfortunately, this avoidance tends to reinforce a pattern of dysfunction and does little to offer the opportunity to confront, challenge and overcome these obstacles. The long term effect is an increased level of social isolation.

Although there are various situations that could trigger symptoms associated with Social Anxiety, Mind Ease’s Social Anxiety Hypnosis Session will specifically target an uncomfortable response one might encounter when leaving the home and attending a social gathering/party. It has been noted that attending these type of events are particularly challenging for those struggling with Social Anxiety Disorder.

This session will utilize proven techniques designed to assist you in establishing a confident and relaxed mind set, thereby creating a more comfortable experience when attending your social event.

Session  Information

The session begins with a soothing progressive relaxation designed to put both your mind and body into a relaxed state of being.

Once you have totally relaxed and are within a comfortable state of hypnosis, you will be gently directed using guided imagery.

A process that incorporates the various steps of your venture into the community to attend a social gathering. Such as driving to your destination, arriving and entering the event, interacting with others, and eventually leaving and returning home.

During this process various positive visualizations, metaphorical references, and hypnotic suggestions will work to help you psychologically reframe negative and unrealistic perceptions, expectations and belief patterns, thus reducing much of the discomfort normally associated with traveling into the community to attend a party or event.

As your session nears its end you will be guided through an exercise of deep breathing and suggestive techniques that you may use on your own, following your hypnosis session.
